 In Loving Memory of

Lascelles de Premio Real

"Lascie," as everyone knew her, was the most visible and enthusiastic
champion that the Breed Xoloitzcuintle has ever had. She was born in
Canada, lived in various parts of Europe, and spent most of her adult
life in Mexico. She was a breeder of different breeds
.

Lascie Quote

"Xolos are a work of art"

It was after coming to Mexico that she gained an interest in the culture. This sparked her interest in the Xoloitzcuintle and she, along with others, traveled many times to the State of Guerrero to aid in the rescue of the few Xoloitzcuintle that were left in that area. Beginning in the early 50's she was very active in the drive to bring the Xolo back from near-extinction. She dedicated her time to setting the type of the breed and to establish the Standard of the Xoloitzcuintle so that it could be accepted by the Federacion Cinologique Internacional (FCI).

The Beginning

When looking at this photo Lascie always said with a laugh,
that she was "breast feeding" the pup.
It was one of her favorite photos.

She was a Mexican and FCI Judge, former administrator of FCM (Mexican Kennel Club) and actively showed her own dogs throughout her life. At one time she bred Poodles and Yorkshire Terriers but her

work with the Xoloitzcuintle was her main interest in the dog world for the last forty years of her life.

She showed her Xolos at every opportunity and earned many championships and great admiration for the breed.

It was Lascie who donated several Xoloitzcuintles to be exchanged by Mexico for Panda Bears from China's leader, Mao Tse Tung. She visited the Chinese zoo many years later and according to Lascie, her dogs still recognized her.

Lascie was proud of the Mexican culture and wore a Mexican Shawl (Rebozo) when she judged in other countries. The last years of her life she lived in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato. As a member of the dog club there she promoted their shows and continued to work as an international judge. Even though she was a relative of nobility, the Real Family of Monaco, she always lived with humility.

Most of the Xolos in Europe and many of the finest in the US and Mexico are descended from her breeding stock. Lascie was always friendly and helpful to those who sought her out for information about Xolos. She loved sharing her knowledge and experiences. She practiced and encouraged good ethical breeding and set a fine example for those who follow her in the breeding of the Xoloitzcuintle.

We have lost a wonderful friend and champion of the breed Xolotizcuintle.
Lascelles de Premio Real passed away
yesterday at the age of 83. Her 84th
birthday would have been on October 10.

She worked with Norman Wright, Jayne Delgado and others to bring the Xolo from near-extinction; a work that extended well over the last 50 years of her life. She was a former administrator of FCM and a FCI/FCM judge to the present time. She was deeply respected and loved by all who knew her. "Lascie" was a very special person, a wonderful warm and caring woman who shared her love of xolos and life with everyone.

We'll miss you Lascie. Thank you for the years we've shared.

Regretfully,
Patty Hoover

We miss you dear Lascie
We cherish the memories of you.
May you rest in Peace.

Memorial Page

Roxie and Gary, words cannot express my gratitude for the wonderful page dedicated
to dear Lascie. She was a marvelous person and a dear, dear friend. Thank you from
the bottom of my heart. May Lascie be looking down upon this memorable work.

Thank you for the beautiful tribute to a wonderful lady. My daughter and I had the great fortune to meet Lascie at a show in Mexico City. In addition to her great love for the Xolos, she loved to see children showing.

Gary and Roxie, Thank you for the beautiful work you did on the page about Lascie. It is a lovely tribute. Lascie was a sport and was always ready for a new adventure, but always with style.

If you notice in the photo taken with the new pup she had just purchased in the village of Tiapehualla, she is wearing a white blouse which looks like it had just been ironed. That village is in a very remote area of the state of Guerrero. Who but Lascie would be so well groomed and dressed on a camping to find dogs?

When she came to our farm she wanted to do everything. I asked her if she wanted to go up in the mountains with me and she responded "Wait a minute while I get a scarf." We rode a Polaris Quad way up into the hills.

I really enjoyed visiting the Lascie web page - what a special woman she must
have been!

Thank you for assembling the information and the photos and sharing with all of us.
It felt to me like discovering mementos of a fabled ancestor. A beautiful tribute to
the very special lady who made it possible for each of us to experience her living
works of art.

The page for Lascie is so wonderful - hearing Patty talk about her made me wish I could have met her, and now I feel as if I knew her myself.

The Lascie page is wonderful. Patty had shown me some of her pictures last summer when I was visiting her and I was wishing then that there was some way to share them with the rest of the world.

My husband and I had the pleasure and privilege to meet "The Countess" as we came to know her .at a Xolo show in Tucson in November of 1991; We were there with our original dog "Juanita" and even made it into a group picture.

The Countess so very graciously invited us to participate in the show since we had not frequented the showing circuit, we humbly declined since neither of us nor our dog would have known the first thing of what to do or how to act. But the occasion left us with a warm glow of acceptance and admiration for this gentle, loving soul who welcomed us with open arms into her special world.

I was saddened to hear of her passing. She was truly a "Dama Real" even if she weren't to have royal blood coursing thru her veins.

We never had the good fortune to meet Lascie. Roxie had a telephone talk with her when she was visiting Patty. We both were excited that she talked to Lascie.
She will always be remembered in our hearts and we miss her.

She gave us the love of the Xolos which without her, many of us would have a different life today. Lascie brought to us the Xolo. For some time now our life has revolved around the Xolo. We have traveled across the country , gone to shows, training classes, met people and answered those silly questions.......I've never seen one of those before! What kind of dog is that? or How do you pronounce that?

Without her, this web page would not exist. Without her and the Xolo what would we be doing now? Little did Lascie know fifty years ago the impact she and her friends would have on others. Thank you Lascie for what you have given us. God bless you.
